Why is revisiting trauma important?

Trauma can sometimes be paralyzing. Therefore, revisiting trauma is difficult and assistance may be needed, however it is necessary. To simply put it, the importance of revisiting trauma is cause and effect.

Let me explain.

Once you recognize the effect or the action, you must revisit what causes the effect. For example, the effect or action is distrust. In order to overcome that negative action I have to look at why I am distrusting. A look back into my childhood reveals the initial people in my formative years consistently betrayed my trust. Therefore, I conditioned myself to not trust anyone, ever! The problem with that is not trusting leaves you lonely. Not trusting leaves you paranoid. Not trusting leaves you feeling scared and defensive. There are so many negative effects that come from one cause. In order to conquer not being able to trust, you must realize that everyone is not like the people who initially betrayed you. This takes work, but it is vital to your healing.
